The Laurel Museum is a cool place to learn about history in Laurel, Maryland, USA. It's inside an old house built a long time ago, between 1836 and 1840. This house used to be home to people who worked in a mill. The City of Laurel fixed up the house, and it opened as a museum on May 1, 1996. You can find it at 9th and Main Streets. The museum shows exhibits about Laurel's past and the people who lived there. There's also a gift shop, and it's free to visit!

The Museum Building's Story
The museum building is made of brick and stone. When it was first built, it had four separate living areas. Later, it became a house for two families. Over time, it changed into a business property. Before it was empty in the 1970s, it was used as a rental home and a storage place. In 1985, the City of Laurel bought the building.
How the Museum Started
The Laurel Historical Society runs the museum. This group helps teach people about history. It started in 1976 as the Laurel Horizon Society. On February 25, 1991, the city government allowed the society to use the building for a museum. The building was then fixed up between 1993 and 1996. It officially opened to the public in 1996.
The John Calder Brennan Library
The museum has a special research library. It is named after John Calder Brennan. He was a local historian who studied the history of Laurel. Sadly, he passed away just three months before the museum opened.
The Sadler Collection
The museum also has a special collection of photos. These photos came from the family of a photographer named Bert Sadler. They gave the museum Sadler's notebooks and 1300 old glass plates with pictures on them. This collection is called The Sadler Collection. It helps show what Laurel looked like in the past.
