Laurence Ferrari (born 5 July 1966) is a well-known French journalist. She is famous for being a former news anchor for the main evening news show Le 20H on the TV channel TF1.
Biography
Early life and education
Laurence Ferrari was born in Aix-les-Bains, a town in Savoie, France. Her father, Gratien Ferrari, was a former mayor of the city and a member of the French National Assembly, which is like the French parliament. Her family has Italian roots from a region called Emilia-Romagna.
Laurence studied at the École Française des Attachés de Presse in Lyon. She also earned a Master's degree in 'Political and Social Communication' from Sorbonne University. She is the oldest of three sisters and is a talented pianist.
Media career
Laurence Ferrari started her career in 1986. She worked as a reporter for the French news agency, AFP, and for Le Figaro Magazine. She also worked at the radio station Europe 1. There, she was a researcher, focusing on health topics.
Her television career began in 1994. She appeared on shows like Studio Gabriel on France 2 and "Combien ça coûte ?" on TF1. In 2001, she co-hosted the Sunday evening magazine Sept à Huit on TF1.
In 2006, she moved to Canal +. She presented the weekly political show "Dimanche +". On this show, she covered the French presidential election of 2007. In June 2008, Laurence became the new anchor of "Le 20 Heures de TF1". This is a very popular TV news program in Europe. She took over the weekday program on August 25, 2008.
In 2010, Laurence Ferrari wore a veil when she interviewed the President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
She presented her last 8pm newscast for TF1 on May 31, 2012. The next day, she announced she was leaving the network. She joined Direct 8 to host a talk show for women.
In 2013, she joined the news network of Canal+ Group, I>Télé. This channel later became CNews in 2016.
Humanitarian work
Since November 2003, Laurence Ferrari has been an ambassador for SOS Children's Villages. This organization helps children in need.
In March 2007, she supported the La Rose Marie Claire project with UNICEF. She worked with other famous people, including journalists Claire Chazal and Marie Drucker. This project aimed to help educate young girls around the world.
Private life
In October 2007, Laurence Ferrari and Thomas Hugues ended their marriage. They had been married since 1993 and had two children, a son and a daughter.
In 2008, she started a relationship with the violinist, Renaud Capuçon. They got married in July 2009 in Paris. They have one son, who was born in November 2010.
