Lawn bowls is a fun sport where players roll special balls, called "bowls," as close as they can to a smaller target ball, called the "jack." It's a bit like curling, but played on grass! This sport has been part of the Summer Paralympics several times. It first appeared in 1968 and was last played at the 1996 Games.
At first, the competitions were simple, with separate events for men and women, and for single players or pairs (doubles). In 1976, they added more events by dividing players into different disability categories. This meant more events and more medals to win! The 1976 Games had the most lawn bowls players ever, with 80 athletes from 13 countries competing in 16 events. Great Britain was the best country in this sport at every Paralympic Games where it was held.
