Lawrence Costa (born around 1969/1970 – died 17 December 2022) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Labor Party.
He served in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 2016 until his death in 2022. He represented the area known as Arafura. Lawrence Costa was a proud member of the Tiwi community.
Lawrence Costa's Early Life and Work
Lawrence Costa grew up on his traditional land called Pitjarmirra. This place is located north of Melville Island.
From 1996 to 2002, he worked for the Pirlangimpi Community Government Council. He helped manage a program that provided jobs and training. Later, he was chosen to be the Deputy Chairman of the Jabiru Regional Council.
He then became the chairperson of the North West Regional Council from 2002 to 2005. In 2008, he took on the role of CEO for Tiwi Islands Local Government. After different local councils joined together, he became a director. He worked in Community Development for the Tiwi Islands Shire Council until 2013. Before becoming a politician, Lawrence Costa also worked in health services. He helped develop health programs for the Department of Health.
