Lawrence Hilton Jacobs (born September 4, 1953) is an American actor and singer. He is most famous for playing Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington. This role was in the popular TV show Welcome Back, Kotter, which aired from 1975 to 1979. Lawrence Hilton Jacobs has also appeared in many movies and other TV shows.

Early Life and Start in Acting

Lawrence Hilton Jacobs was born in New York City, New York. He was the fifth of nine children in his family. He started acting in the summer of 1969.

He finished high school at the High School of Art and Design in 1971. After that, he studied acting with two theater groups. These were the Negro Ensemble Company and the Al Fann Theatrical Ensemble.

Famous Roles and Career Highlights

In 1975, Lawrence Hilton Jacobs got the role of Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington. This was on the hit comedy show Welcome Back, Kotter on ABC. The show was very popular.

In the same year, he also starred in the movie Cooley High. He played a character named Richard "Cochise" Morris. Two years later, he had a part in the big ABC mini-series Roots.

Later in his career, he appeared in the science fiction TV series Alien Nation. He played Sergeant Dobbs from 1989 to 1990. He also acted in the horror film 31 as Panda Thomas.

In 1992, Jacobs played Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson. Joe Jackson was the father of the famous Jackson family music group. This was in the TV mini-series The Jacksons: An American Dream.

Music and Other Work

Lawrence Hilton Jacobs is also a singer. He sang on Rick James' album Street Songs in 1981.

He has two daughters.
