Lawrence Hilton Jacobs, also known as Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (born September 4, 1953), is an American actor and singer. He is most famous for playing Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington in the TV show Welcome Back Kotter from 1975 to 1979. He has also appeared in many movies and TV shows. These include Claudine (1974), Cooley High (1975), and the mini-series Roots (1977).
Life and career
Lawrence Hilton Jacobs was born in New York City, New York. He was the fifth of nine children. His parents were Hilton Jacobs and Clothilda Jacobs.
He started acting in the summer of 1969. He graduated from the High School of Art and Design in 1971. He also studied acting with the Negro Ensemble Company.
In 1975, he got the role of Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington. This was on the popular ABC comedy show, Welcome Back, Kotter. In the same year, Jacobs also starred in the movie Cooley High. He played the character Richard "Cochise" Morris. Two years later, he had a role in the very popular ABC mini-series Roots.
Later in his career, he appeared in the science fiction TV series Alien Nation from 1989 to 1990. In this show, he played Sgt. Dobbs. He also played Panda Thomas in Rob Zombie's movie 31.
Jacobs played Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson in 1992. Joe Jackson was the father of the famous Jackson family. This was in the mini-series The Jacksons: An American Dream.
Jacobs also sang on Rick James' 1981 album, Street Songs.
As a way to honor him, a housing project in Eddie Murphy's TV show The PJs was named the Hilton-Jacobs Projects.
He has two daughters.
