Lawrenceton is a small, quiet place in Missouri, United States. It's what we call an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Jackson Township in Sainte Genevieve County. You can find Lawrenceton about 14 miles west of the town of Ste. Genevieve.

Where Did the Name Lawrenceton Come From?

The name Lawrenceton comes from a man named Henry Lawrence. He was a businessman who helped the community grow. Henry Lawrence owned a flour mill, a farm, and even a store where people could pick up their mail.

The Original Name: Punjaub

Before it was called Lawrenceton, this community had a different name: Punjaub. This name sounds a lot like a region in India. No one is quite sure why it was given this name.

Some people have a theory that Punjaub might have come from the words pond job. This idea came about because there was a dam built in the area. This dam helped power a mill that used water to grind grain.
