LeMay Family Collection Foundation facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The LeMay Family Collection Foundation is a special place where you can see a huge collection of cars! It was started by Harold LeMay because he wanted to keep his amazing car collection together. He also wanted to share it with everyone.

This collection is different from America's Car Museum in downtown Tacoma. The LeMay family still owns and manages the LeMay Family Collection directly.

Today, the museum is open to visitors six days a week. You can usually see about 500 cars on display. Some cars are moved in and out from storage so there's always something new to see. The collection is located at the historic Marymount Military Academy. This building used to be a school for boys and a home for nuns. Later, it became the home for Harold and Nancy LeMay's classic car collection.

The LeMay Family Collection Foundation also hosts the yearly LeMay Car Show. It's a big event for car lovers!

A Popular Place to Visit

The LeMay Family Collection Foundation has been recognized as one of the best museums in Western Washington. In 2013, it was nominated for an award by King 5, a local TV station. It placed 14th out of more than 60 museums! In 2015, the Collection did even better, placing in the top 5. This shows how much people enjoy visiting and seeing the cars.
