Lea Wait (born May 26, 1946 – died August 9, 2019) was an American writer. She was known for her exciting historical novels and mystery stories. Many of her books were set in the beautiful state of Maine. Lea Wait wrote many books especially for young readers, starting from age 7. She also wrote mystery series for adults.

She went to college at Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Later, she continued her studies at New York University. After her education, she worked as a manager at a big company called AT&T.
How She Became a Writer
Lea Wait's grandmother was an antiques dealer. This means she bought and sold old, valuable items. In 1976, Lea decided to follow in her grandmother's footsteps. She started her own business selling old prints.
Working with these historical items sparked her imagination. It was then that she decided she wanted to become a writer. She loved telling stories, especially those connected to history.
Life in Maine
In 1998, Lea Wait left her corporate job. She moved to Edgecomb, a lovely town in Maine. From then on, she focused completely on writing. She also enjoyed speaking about writing to others.
In October 2003, Lea married an artist named Bob Thomas. They shared a creative life together in Maine. Lea Wait passed away on August 9, 2019. She left behind many wonderful stories for readers of all ages.
