A learner's permit is a special document. It lets people learn how to drive a car. You get it before you can get a full driver's license. Many countries require you to have this permit for a while. It helps you practice driving safely.

What is a Learner's Permit?

A learner's permit is also known as a driver's permit or provisional license. It is given to people who are learning to drive. They do not yet meet all the requirements for a regular driver's license. This permit allows them to gain experience on the road.

How Do You Get a Learner's Permit?

To get a learner's permit, you usually need to pass a few tests.

• Written Test: You will take a test about road rules. This includes traffic signs and safe driving practices.
• Minimum Age: There is a minimum age requirement. This age can be different depending on where you live. It usually ranges from 14 to 19 years old.
• Eyesight Test: You also need to pass a test to make sure your eyesight is good enough for driving.

Rules for Learner Drivers

Once you have a learner's permit, there are special rules you must follow. These rules help keep you and others safe. For example, in Victoria, Australia, learner drivers must:

• Be at least 16 years old.
• Pass a written test with 25 correct answers out of 32 questions.
• Display an "L" plate on the front and back of the car. This tells other drivers you are learning.
• Always have a fully licensed driver with them in the car. This person acts as a supervisor.
• Not have any alcohol in their body when driving.
• Not tow anything behind the car.
• Hold their learner's permit for 12 months.
• Complete 120 hours of supervised driving practice. This practice helps them prepare for the full driver's license test.
