Lee Stewart Richardson (born April 25, 1979 – died May 13, 2012) was a famous British motorcycle speedway rider. He was known for his exciting racing style.
Lee Richardson's Speedway Career
Lee Richardson started his professional speedway career in Britain in 1995. His first team was the Reading Racers.
He was a very talented rider and represented Great Britain in many important races. He competed for both the senior team and the under-21 team. Lee also took part in several World Cup events.
One of his biggest achievements was becoming the World Under-21 Champion in 1999. This showed he was one of the best young riders in the world.
In 2002, Lee won a special race called the GP Challenge. Winning this race meant he earned a permanent spot in the Grand Prix series for 2003. The Grand Prix is where the best speedway riders from around the world compete.
He raced in the Grand Prix series for four years, from 2003 to 2006. In 2003, he also won the Elite League Riders' Championship, which is a top award for riders in the British Elite League. Later in his career, Lee joined the Lakeside Hammers team in 2009.
Lee's Family
Lee Richardson came from a family involved in speedway. His mother, Julie, used to be a presenter for a TV sports channel called ScreenSport. His father, Colin, was also a speedway rider. Lee's uncle, Steve Weatherley, was another rider who had a serious accident during a race.
Passing Away
Sadly, Lee Richardson passed away on May 13, 2012. He was racing in a Polish League match in Wrocław, Poland, when he had an accident involving a safety fence. He died from his injuries in a hospital.
