Legoland Discovery Center Chicago facts for kids

LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago is a super fun indoor place in Schaumburg, Illinois. It's packed with Lego-themed activities for families to enjoy! You can find cool Lego rides, a soft play area, a special 4D cinema, and a gift shop full of Lego goodies. This exciting center is located inside The Streets of Woodfield shopping center. It's run by a company called Merlin Entertainments, which also owns other awesome attractions around the world.

The Story of LEGO and LEGOLAND

Did you know Lego bricks were invented in 1958? A Danish carpenter named Ole Kirk Kristiansen created them. At the Lego factory in Billund, Denmark, workers started putting Lego models outside. People loved them so much that it became the first ever LEGOLAND park!

The very first Legoland Discovery Center opened in Berlin in 2007. Since then, many more have opened up. LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Chicago opened in 2008. It was the first one in North America! It's important to remember that Legoland Discovery Centers are smaller, indoor places. The big LEGOLAND parks are huge outdoor theme parks with roller coasters and lots of rides.

Explore MINILAND®

Step into a miniature world built entirely from Lego bricks! In MINILAND®, you can see a tiny Lego replica of the local area. Look closely to spot famous landmarks and everyday scenes, all made with thousands of Lego pieces.

Go on a Jungle Expedition

Get ready for an adventure in the Jungle Expedition! This area features amazing, life-sized Lego models of animals. As you explore, you can also try to answer questions on a fun quiz trail.

Kingdom Quest Laser Ride

Grab your laser blaster and get ready for action! On the Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, you'll zap ogres, rats, and cats that try to stop you. Keep your eyes peeled for hidden treasure chests to earn extra points!

Experience the LEGO® 4D Cinema

Get ready for a movie experience like no other! The LEGO® 4D Cinema shows special 4D films throughout the day. These movies feature popular Lego characters and include cool effects like wind, rain, and even snow right in the theater!

Become a Master Builder

Do you love building with Lego? At the LEGO® Master Builder Academy, you can learn from the best! Expert Lego builders, called Master Model Builders, teach fun classes. You can pick up new tips and tricks to make your Lego creations even more amazing.

Build and Test LEGO Cars

Design your dream Lego car and then put it to the test! In this area, you can build your own Lego vehicles. Once your car is ready, you can race it down special ramps to see how fast it goes.

Merlin’s Apprentice Ride

Ready to fly? On Merlin’s Apprentice Ride, you can pedal to lift your seat higher and higher. As you go up, you'll get a great view of the entire Legoland Discovery Center Chicago.

Play in DUPLO® Village

Even the youngest builders have a special place to play! DUPLO® Village has a fun play slide and large, friendly animal models made from DUPLO bricks. There are also plenty of big DUPLO bricks to build with.

Pirate Adventure Island

Ahoy, mateys! A new Pirate Adventure Island opened in 2015. This exciting area lets kids build their own Lego boats. Once your boat is ready, you can race it on a water table. It's a swashbuckling good time!

Grab a Snack at the Café

If you get hungry or thirsty during your visit, head over to the Café. They serve a variety of food, drinks, and snacks to keep you energized for more building and playing.

The LEGOLAND® Discovery Center Shop
