Leith School of Art (LSA) is a special place in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's an independent art college where students learn about art and design. Think of it as a school for artists! It helps young people develop their creative skills after high school.
The school is located in the Leith area of Edinburgh. It's in a really interesting building! It used to be the Norwegian Seamen's Church. This church was built a long time ago, in 1868, by two architects named James Simpson and Johan Schroder.
What is Leith School of Art?
Leith School of Art was started by Mark and Charlotte Cheverton. They opened the school in 1988 or 1989. Their main goal was to create a lively art school. They wanted to teach both old and new art styles. The aim was to help students create unique and high-quality artwork.
The School Building
Leith School of Art has always been in the former Norwegian Seamen's Church. The main church building has three levels of art studios. These are big rooms where students can work on their art projects. There are also more studios and classrooms in the old church hall. This hall is located behind the main building.
In 1999, a new part was added to the school. This modern extension was built around three sides of the old church. It created even more studio space for students. It also added a small library where students can find books and resources. Plus, it made a new entrance hall for the school.
