Leonard Hamm is a former leader of the Baltimore Police Department. He served as the head of the department, known as the commissioner, from 2004 to 2007.

Life and Career

Leonard Hamm grew up in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of Baltimore. He went to Baltimore City College. In 1974, he joined the Baltimore Police Department.

He worked his way up through the police ranks. He became a Lieutenant and then a Major. He was the first African American officer to lead the Central District of the Baltimore Police Department. This was a very important role.

In 2007, he left his position as commissioner. He was then succeeded by Frederick H. Bealefeld III. After leaving the Baltimore Police Department, Hamm worked as the Chief of Campus Police. He served at Coppin State University in Baltimore until June 2021.

In 2015, Leonard Hamm published a book. It was called The Hamm Rules on Relationships, Leadership, Love and Community.

Family Connections

Leonard Hamm has a grandson named Malik Hamm. Malik Hamm is a talented athlete. He plays as a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens football team.
