Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Les Raboses is an old archaeological site. It is found on a mountain with the same name. This mountain is near the town of Albalat dels Tarongers. The site dates back to the Bronze Age. This was a time long ago when people used bronze tools.

Discovering Les Raboses

The site of Les Raboses was first found in the 1940s. A person named Andrés Monzo Nogues discovered it. He was looking for old things in the ground.

The items found there are now being studied. They are kept safe by the Prehistory Research Service in Valencia. Later, in 1987-89, another expert named Eva Ripollés explored and dug at the site again.

Where is Les Raboses?

The Les Raboses site is located in the Camp de Morvedre area. It sits on top of a hill. This was a common place for people to live during the Bronze Age.

The area around it is very hilly. It is also near the Palancia river. This river has been an important path for travel. People used it to move between the coast and inland areas for a very long time.

The site is bordered by the Garbí mountains to the west. To the east are the mountains of Sant Esperit. The rocks here are mostly limestone and red sandstone. The top of the hill is long and narrow. The site is very close to the Barranco de Segart. This is a natural pathway between the Valle del Turia and Palancia valleys.

Climate and Plants

The mountains create different types of weather in this area. In the flat parts, it's a warm Mediterranean climate. In shady or mountainous areas, there is more rain.

During the Sub-Boreal period, it was wetter than it is today. This meant that certain trees grew at lower heights. These included Quercus faginea (a type of oak), Pinus sylvestris (Scots pine), and Quercus suber (cork oak).

When Was Les Raboses Used?

People started using the Les Raboses site during the Early and Middle Bronze Age. This means it was used from about 2200 BC to 1500 BC. It was not used during the very end of the Bronze Age.
