Lesley Thomson is a Scottish lawyer who held an important legal role called the Solicitor General for Scotland. She served in this position from 2011 to 2016. The Solicitor General is one of the main legal advisors to the Scottish Government. They help make sure laws are followed and give legal advice on important matters.
Lesley Thomson was chosen for this role on May 19, 2011. This happened after the 2011 Scottish Parliament election. She took over from Frank Mulholland, who moved to an even higher legal position called the Lord Advocate.

Lesley Thomson's Legal Career
Starting as a Lawyer
Lesley Thomson began her career as a lawyer with a company called SSEB. In 1985, she became a Procurator Fiscal. A Procurator Fiscal is a public prosecutor in Scotland. Their job is to investigate crimes and decide if someone should be charged and go to court.
Working with the Law
Throughout her career, Lesley Thomson focused on cases involving serious financial wrongdoing. She worked to make sure that people who broke the law faced consequences. She also helped to recover money that was gained through illegal activities.
She worked as a Procurator Fiscal in different areas. These included Selkirk, Edinburgh, and later for Lothian & Borders. In May 2008, she became the area Procurator Fiscal for Glasgow. This meant she was in charge of legal cases in that large city.
Leading Legal Investigations
Lesley Thomson also played a key role in the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS). This is the main public prosecution service in Scotland. She helped lead investigations into complex cases and serious incidents. She was known as an expert in dealing with serious crimes.
She also wrote a book about how to recover money from illegal activities. In 2013, she made history by becoming the first woman to join the board of Scottish Rugby. This shows her leadership skills beyond the legal field.
