Leslie House facts for kids

Leslie House was a very old and important building in the town of Leslie, located in Scotland. It was built a long time ago, between the years 1667 and 1674. This grand house was made for a powerful person named John Leslie. He was the 7th Earl of Rothes and later became the 1st Duke of Rothes.

Building a Grand Home

The construction of Leslie House began in 1667 and finished in 1674. It was built specifically for John Leslie, who held important titles like the 7th Earl of Rothes. He lived in the house for about seven years before he passed away in 1681. The house was designed to be a grand home for a noble family.

Who Lived in Leslie House?

After John Leslie's death, the house continued to be used by the Earls of Rothes for many generations. They were a prominent family in Scotland. This continued until 1919, when Norman Leslie and Nöel Leslie decided to sell the property. It was bought by Sir Robert Spencer Nairn.

Later, from 1952 until the early 2000s, the house was empty for a long time. Then, it was given a new purpose and became a home for older people.

The Fire of 2009

Sadly, Leslie House faced a tragic event in 2009. After the Fife Council bought the property, a large fire broke out. The fire caused significant damage, and the historic building was largely destroyed.
