Dominique Armani Jones (born December 3, 1994), known as Lil Baby, is a popular American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He became famous after releasing his mixtapes Harder than Hard and Too Hard in 2017. One of his first hit songs, "My Dawg," appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
He signed with Quality Control Music, a record label. His first album, Harder Than Ever (2018), reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart. This album included the top-ten song "Yes Indeed" with Drake. Later, he released a mixtape called Drip Harder with fellow rapper Gunna. This mixtape featured another hit song, "Drip Too Hard." His solo mixtape Street Gossip also did very well, reaching number two on the Billboard 200.
Lil Baby's second album, My Turn (2020), was a huge success. It stayed at number one on the Billboard 200 for five weeks. It was certified quadruple platinum, meaning it sold over four million copies. This made it the best-selling album of that year. The album included popular songs like "We Paid" and "The Bigger Picture." "The Bigger Picture" was inspired by the George Floyd protests and was nominated for two Grammy Awards.
In 2021, his album The Voice of the Heroes with Lil Durk also reached number one. Lil Baby won a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his part in Kanye West and The Weeknd's song "Hurricane." His albums It's Only Me (2022) and WHAM (2025) also topped the Billboard 200.

Early Life and Beginnings
Jones grew up in the Oakland City neighborhood of Southwest Atlanta, Georgia. His mother raised him and his two sisters after his father left when he was two years old. He left Booker T. Washington High School in ninth grade. In his younger years, he faced some legal challenges.
Starting His Music Career
When Lil Baby was seventeen, he spent a lot of time at Quality Control Records in Atlanta. The label's founder, Kevin "Coach K" Lee, encouraged him to start rapping. Coach K believed Lil Baby had the right style and was respected in the city. Other rappers like Young Thug and Gunna helped him develop his unique sound.
He released his first mixtape, Perfect Timing, in April 2017. It featured songs with Young Thug, Gunna, and Lil Yachty. Another mixtape, Harder Than Hard, came out in August 2017. In October, he released 2 The Hard Way, a collaboration with his friend Marlo. His fourth mixtape, Too Hard, was released in December. This mixtape included his hit song "Freestyle," which was certified gold in 2020.
First Album Success: Harder Than Ever
As his music career grew, Lil Baby released his first studio album, Harder Than Ever, in May 2018. It quickly reached number three on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album featured popular songs like "Southside" and "Yes Indeed" with Drake. "Yes Indeed" reached number six on the Billboard Hot 100. Another song, "Life Goes On," featuring Gunna and Lil Uzi Vert, also charted.
Lil Baby started his own record label, 4 Pockets Full (4PF), in 2017. Rappers 42 Dugg and Rylo Rodriguez are signed to this label. In 2023, the label changed its name to Glass Window Entertainment.
Collaborations and More Hits
After Harder Than Ever, Lil Baby released the collaborative mixtape Drip Harder with Gunna on October 5, 2018. The main song from this mixtape, "Drip Too Hard," became a huge success. It was certified Diamond, meaning it sold over ten million copies. The song reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for a Grammy Award. This mixtape was released under Quality Control, YSL Records, and Motown/Capitol Records.
In November 2018, he released his mixtape Street Gossip. In December 2018, Lil Baby worked with Yung Gravy on the song "Alley Oop."
Lil Baby appeared in the 2019 film How High 2, which premiered in April 2019 on MTV. In June 2019, he and Future released a song called "Out the Mud." In July 2019, Lil Baby was featured on the song "Baby" with DaBaby. This song reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In November 2019, Lil Baby released "Woah," the first song from his second album, My Turn. This song reached number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also appeared on KSI's song "Down Like That" with Rick Ross and S-X. He performed this song at KSI's boxing match against Logan Paul. Lil Baby also released "Catch the Sun" from the film Queen & Slim, which later appeared on My Turn.
Continued Success: Albums and Awards
In January 2020, Lil Baby released "Sum 2 Prove," another song from his upcoming album. It reached number 16 on the Hot 100. His album, My Turn, was released in February 2020 and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. It featured many guest artists like Gunna, Future, Lil Wayne, and Young Thug. My Turn had 12 songs that appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
After a deluxe version of the album was released in May 2020, My Turn returned to the top of the Billboard 200. In June 2020, Lil Baby released "The Bigger Picture," a song with a powerful message. This song debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming his highest-charting song as a lead artist.
In July 2020, Lil Baby was featured on Pop Smoke's song "For the Night," which reached number six on the Hot 100. By September 2020, My Turn was certified double platinum. "The Bigger Picture" received two nominations at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.
In March 2021, Lil Baby performed "The Bigger Picture" at the Grammy Awards. The next day, his collaboration with Drake, "Wants and Needs," debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. This became his highest-charting song overall. In June 2021, Lil Baby released his collaborative album The Voice of the Heroes with Lil Durk. In September 2021, Lil Baby was featured on Drake's song "Girls Want Girls," which also reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100. In February 2022, he released "Do We Have a Problem?" with Nicki Minaj, along with a music video. Lil Baby was a main performer at J. Cole's Dreamville 2022 Music Festival. A documentary film about him, Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, premiered in June 2022 and was released on Amazon Prime Video in August 2022.
In April 2022, Lil Baby released the songs "In A Minute" and "Right On," which charted on the Billboard Hot 100. In October, he released "Heyy" as a song for his album It's Only Me. This album was released four days later and became his third album to reach number one.

In January 2023, Lil Baby was featured on Trippe Redd's album Mansion Musik. In April, he released the song "Go Hard." In August 2023, he was featured on Ciara's song "Forever."
In April 2024, Baby appeared on Future and Metro Boomin's album We Still Don't Trust You. The following month, he was featured on "Band4Band" with UK rapper Central Cee. This song reached number 3 on the UK singles chart and was certified platinum in the US.
In November 2024, Lil Baby began releasing songs for his fourth album, including "5AM," "Insecurities," and "Touchdown." On January 3, 2025, he released his fourth studio album, WHAM. This album featured artists like Young Thug, Future, and Travis Scott. WHAM debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.
Personal Life
Lil Baby has a son from a past relationship. He also has a son with model and entrepreneur Jayda Cheaves, who appeared in his music video for "Close Friends." Their son was born in February 2019.
In May 2021, Lil Baby visited the White House with the family of George Floyd. In July 2021, he faced a legal issue in Paris, France, but was quickly released after paying a fine. In August 2024, he was arrested in Las Vegas on a charge related to a concealed item, but was released after posting bail.
