Linda Hoy facts for kids
Linda Hoy is a British author who writes exciting books for children and young adults. She is known for telling stories that help young people understand big feelings and new ideas.
Her very first novel, Your Friend, Rebecca, came out in 1981. This book is often used in schools to help young people when they are dealing with the sadness of losing someone they care about.
Another one of her novels, Haddock 'n' Chips, won a special prize called the Children's Book Award in 1994. A book about the Sheffield United football team, United on Vacation, was also a finalist for the same award in 1995.
Awards and Teaching
Linda Hoy also writes for television. Her first TV play, Emily, won the Silver Award for Drama in New York in 1985. She received a special Writers' Award for New Writing from the Arts Council in 1999.
She was a special guest, called a Fellow, at York St John University from 2004 to 2007. She was also a Fellow at the University of Sheffield from 2007 to 2010. Linda Hoy has taught creative writing at Sheffield Hallam University. She often leads fun writing workshops in schools and universities, helping young writers learn and grow. Her daughter, Mikita Brottman, is also a writer and academic in the USA.
Exploring Big Ideas
A newer book by Linda Hoy, called The Effect, was published in 2012. This book explores interesting connections between time, spiritual ideas, and a type of science called quantum physics. It suggests new ways to think about whether we have a soul and what happens after life.
