Lindell, Missouri facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Lindell is a small place in Maries County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and perhaps a few businesses that don't have their own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's managed by the county government.

A Look Back: The Story of Lindell

Lindell got its start a long time ago. In 1884, a post office was opened there, which was a big deal for people living in the area because it made sending and receiving mail much easier. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1919.

The community was named after a business called the Lindell Dry Goods Company. An early settler in the area had connections with this company, and they decided to name the new settlement after it. A "dry goods company" used to be a store that sold many different everyday items, like fabrics, clothing, and other household goods, but not fresh food.
