Lindley, Missouri facts for kids
Lindley is a small place in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's not officially a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings located in parts of Grundy and Sullivan counties.
The Story of Lindley
Lindley was first planned out and mapped in 1845. This process is called "platting." It means someone drew up the streets, lots, and public areas for a new community.
The community was named after a man named James J. Lindley. He was an important person in Missouri's government. He served as a state legislator, which means he was elected to help make laws for the state.
A post office was opened in Lindley in 1854. This office helped people send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years. It finally closed its doors in 1906.
