During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Florida was part of the Confederate States of America. However, not everyone in Florida supported the Confederacy. A group of people in the state remained loyal to the United States, also known as the Union. As the war went on, more and more Floridians chose to support the Union. In total, over 2,200 Floridians joined Union military units. This article lists the different groups of soldiers from Florida who fought for the Union.

Even though Florida officially left the United States to join the Confederacy, many people living there still believed in the Union. These brave individuals decided to fight for the United States government. They formed their own military groups or joined existing Union armies. Cavalry Units from Florida

Cavalry units were soldiers who fought on horseback. They were often used for scouting, quick attacks, and carrying messages. Several cavalry groups were formed by Floridians who supported the Union.

    • The Independent Union Rangers of Taylor County were a smaller group that later became part of the 2nd Florida Cavalry.
