List of MPs elected to the English parliament in 1625 facts for kids
The Useless Parliament was the very first Parliament called by King Charles I in 1625. It got its unusual name because, from the King's point of view, it didn't achieve much!
This Parliament started on June 21, 1625. It met for a short time until July 11, 1625, when everyone moved to Oxford because people were worried about the plague in London. It then met again from August 1 to August 12, 1625, before it was officially ended.

What is Parliament?
Parliament is like a big meeting where people chosen from different parts of the country come together. Their job is to help make laws and discuss important issues with the King. The people who are chosen to go to Parliament are called members of Parliament (MPs).
Why was it called the 'Useless Parliament'?
King Charles I needed money, especially to pay for wars. He expected Parliament to approve new taxes quickly. However, the MPs had their own concerns. They wanted to discuss other issues and didn't agree with the King on everything. Because they couldn't agree on important matters, very little was actually achieved. This made the King unhappy, and he soon ended the Parliament, calling it "useless" because it didn't do what he wanted.
Who were the Members of Parliament (MPs)?
Each area of England and Wales, called a constituency, chose people to represent them in Parliament. These representatives were called Members of Parliament, or MPs. They spoke for the people in their area.
