Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Raccoons is a fun Canadian cartoon series that started with TV specials between 1980 and 1983, and a special video in 1984. It then became a regular TV show in 1985. The show follows the adventures of Bert Raccoon, his friends Ralph and Melissa Raccoon, and their dog Schaeffer, as they often try to stop the greedy aardvark Cyril Sneer from his latest money-making schemes that could harm the beautiful Evergreen Forest.

The Raccoons: Early Adventures (1980–1984)

Before becoming a regular series, The Raccoons started with three TV specials and one direct-to-video special. These specials introduced many of the main characters and their world.

This special is like a music video, using clips and songs from the earlier specials. Bert Raccoon hosts a music video party, and everyone is invited, even though Cyril just wants to sleep!

The Raccoons: The TV Series

The regular TV series had sixty episodes, airing from 1985 to 1991. Most episode titles ended with an exclamation mark!

Bert and Ralph take Cedric on a camping trip to a fort they built as kids. Cedric has to spend the night inside a local haunted house to join their club.

Cyril Sneer and Mammoth Motors want to build a car factory in the Evergreen Forest, which could ruin its beauty. To save the forest, Bert and his friends build a solar-powered car to race against Cyril's "Sneermobile."

Cedric Sneer feels his father doesn't appreciate him, so he runs away to live with the Raccoons. At the same time, the human children Julie and Tommy also run away from home and get lost in the forest.

Bert, Cedric, and little puppy Broo find an old treasure map. They search the Evergreen Forest to find it. Cyril Sneer hears about their search and wants the treasure for himself.

Ralph and Cedric get trapped in Cyril Sneer's new super-safe vault. Bert, Melissa, Broo, and even Cyril must work together to save them, while avoiding the vault's many traps.

Ralph Raccoon gets a job offer at a big newspaper company in the city. Ranger Forest Dan also gets a job offer in the city. Bert Raccoon tries to make sure everyone stays in the Evergreen Forest to stop Cyril Sneer from ruining it.

Cedric and Sophia hear that the king and queen are visiting the Evergreen Forest. Bert wants to become a knight. Cyril also wants to be a knight, but only so he can be named ruler of the forest.

Cyril plans to buy the local newspaper, the Evergreen Standard. He gets Mr. Knox to help him buy all the ink and paper companies so the Standard runs out of supplies. Mr. Knox wants gold as payment. Bert tries to save the paper by magically creating enough gold for supplies.

Cyril's electricity is cut off because he didn't pay his bill. He plans to build a power dam to show Mammoth Power who's boss. Meanwhile, Ralph's Aunt Gertie visits, and Bert and Cedric stay with her while Ralph and Melissa go camping.

Cyril Sneer has a bad cold. The pigs misunderstand and convince him he's dying. Bert, hearing this, uses all his savings to build a monument for Cyril. When Cyril finds out he's not dying, he tries to use the situation to make the Evergreen Standard newspaper go broke.

Bert and Cedric meet Herman the hermit. They learn that his home, Beaver Bite Swamp, might have oil under it. Cyril wants to buy the swamp from Herman.

Because of a misunderstanding, Cyril Sneer and Lady Baden-Baden are getting married. This worries Cedric, who never knew his real mother, and Mr. Knox, who secretly likes Lady Baden-Baden.

The Pigs create a time machine. Cyril Sneer uses it to go back in time and change things.

Season 3 (1988)

Lady Baden-Baden lets Cyril Sneer use her very valuable diamond, The Prism of Zenda, for a big movie he is funding. But when the prism disappears, Bert must find it. Cyril tries to keep Mr. Knox and Lady Baden-Baden from finding out it's gone.

A famous author and adventurer, Sir Malcolm Havelock, visits the Evergreen Forest. Bert wants to join his next adventure. Cyril Sneer plans to pay for the trip, hoping to find treasure.
24 "The Chips Are Down!" 1988 "Restless in the Night"

Cyril Sneer needs to sell more of his potato chips before he can sell his factory to Mr. Knox. So, he and the pigs create a fake contest for a new bike. Bert gets caught up in the contest and spends all his money on it.

When local dirt bike champion Bix Wheelie comes to town, Bert is amazed by him. Cedric often gets blamed for Bix's actions.

Melissa and Bert see a fire-breathing monster in Evergreen Lake, and tourists start coming to see it. Cyril Sneer uses this chance to sell expensive monster toys and items.
27 "Mom's the Word!" 1988 "Restless in the Night"
Mrs. Pig, the pigs' mother, visits her sons. She thinks they are millionaires because of their misleading letters. She asks them for money to rebuild their old family home after a hurricane.
28 "Picture Perfect!" 1988 "Here I Go Again"

Melissa takes some photos of Snag saving Cedric from a fire. She gets a job offer from a big magazine. News of Snag's bravery also reaches a TV producer, and Snag gets a chance to star in a TV show.
29 "Strictly by the Book!" 1988 "Stop The Clock"
Cedric's friends tease him for not being confident enough. Cyril sends him to a university, and Cedric comes back a changed aardvark. Soon, no one can stand the "new and improved" Cedric. Cyril and the Raccoons must change Cedric back to his old self.

Bert finds a very old steam train hidden deep in the Evergreen Forest. Cyril discovers that inside the train is ten million dollars from a hundred years ago.

Bentley Raccoon is having problems and runs away from home to live in Bert and Cedric's fort. Meanwhile, the Sneer Mansion's new computer security system goes crazy, trying to trap Cyril and the pigs inside as the mansion fills with water.
32 "The Paper Chase!" 1988 "When the Sun Comes Up"
Ralph is nominated by a local election group for his work on the newspaper. He becomes a bit too proud and tries to make every part of the paper perfect. Meanwhile, Cyril Sneer is nominated for a big award, but his chances of winning are in danger when the bears go on strike.
33 "Simon Says!" 1988 "Growing Up"
Simon Sneer, who claims to be Cyril's brother, shows up at Sneer Mansion expecting to inherit money. However, Bert Raccoon thinks he is a fake and tries to prove it.

Cyril Sneer goes on a game show. He must remember voices of people he knows from past episodes to win a prize. Things get complicated when the tax collector gets involved.

Season 4 (1989)

When Troy Malone visits Melissa, Ralph tries to win back Melissa's attention by entering a flying contest.

To get a contract signed, Cyril Sneer agrees to look after Mr. Knox's nephew. This leads to Cedric becoming the nephew's new target for bullying.

Lady Baden-Baden decides to work at the Blue Spruce Cafe, which makes Mr. Knox very unhappy.
39 "Search and Rescue!" 1989 "Come On Home"

Bert and Cedric go exploring on an island to find a fallen meteorite, but they don't tell anyone where they are going and get stuck. Soon, everyone else is desperately searching the forest to find them.

Bert falls in love with Lisa, Bentley's older sister, when she visits the Evergreen Forest. After much delay, he gets a date with her, having big hopes for someone he just met. Meanwhile, Cyril Sneer must choose between going to a camp reunion with Cedric or meeting a famous billionaire.

While looking through old family records for one of Lady Baden-Baden's writing projects, Bert and Cedric find papers about a Sneer being adopted. They then believe Cedric was adopted.

When a famous magician comes to the Evergreen Forest, Bert really wants to become his helper. Meanwhile, Cyril Sneer tries to sell Mr. Knox his new, very secure vault for $750,000.

When Bentley comes for his yearly visit, Bert and Cedric take him to see the old Evergreen Schoolhouse. There, they meet their old teacher, Ms. Primrose, and learn the school is too small to meet government rules and must close.

Cyril tries too hard to be a good father for Cedric. He builds a homemade flying machine for the science fair. Meanwhile, Bert finds a tar pit with dinosaur bones in it.

Lloyd (Pig Three) starts shoplifting to impress his brothers, who like comic books. Meanwhile, Cyril Sneer and Mr. Knox compete with their products in a contest to take over the skateboard business.

As Cyril tries to put on a play in the old theater, it seems to be haunted by a ghost.

Ralph's older brother, George, moves into the Evergreen Forest with his wife Nicole, and their kids Lisa and Bentley. Lisa has trouble getting used to living in the forest, away from her friends. Meanwhile, the pigs lose their jobs and get new ones at Mr. Knox's TV station.
51 "End of the Line!" 1990 "Growing Up"
Cyril needs a new product to sell at an upcoming business meeting. He puts Cedric in charge of the project. Cedric realizes that "Sneer Snake oil," one of Cyril's old products, can be used as sunblock. Meanwhile, a train full of trash mysteriously arrives in the forest, making Ralph and Melissa investigate where it came from.

When Bentley breaks Bert's new remote-control car, he tries an advertising trick to earn money to pay for it. This leads to him and the pigs getting trapped in the Endless Echo caverns. Now Bert, Lisa, and Cedric must go through the tunnels under Evergreen Lake to free them.

The pigs convince Bentley to take a job at Cyril's new robotics company. Bentley does so well that Cyril promotes him right away. The pigs are upset because they think they deserve the raise for "bringing Bentley into the company." So, they mess up the computer system, causing Bentley to be fired. When Cyril understands what happened, he must find Bentley, who is now camping with Bert and Cedric.

Bert takes on too many tasks, trying to make everyone happy while preparing for the fair. The pigs' mother visits again, just in time to see their small jam-making plan.
55 "Black Belt Bentley!" 1990 "Growing Up"

After being picked on by some schoolmates, Bentley wants to learn self-defense. Schaeffer reveals he is a Black belt in Karate and offers to teach him, Bert, and Cedric. But when Schaeffer sees Bentley's potential with martial arts, he refuses to teach him because of a difficult past. Meanwhile, Cyril Sneer destroys one of his own companies to take over the soft drink business.
56 "The Wrong Stuff!" 1991 "When the Sun Comes Up"
Cyril is about to launch his own satellite TV service. Ralph and Schaeffer are excited about getting over forty sports channels. The pigs try to send a message to their mother for Mother's Day. Elsewhere, to prove he can handle his own dog, Bert lets Bentley watch Broo for the weekend. Bentley fails when Broo gets trapped inside Cyril's satellite, leading to a race against time to save him.

Lisa starts smoking because of peer pressure. Meanwhile, Cyril Sneer tries to join a very fancy golf club. In the end, Lisa and Cyril talk about how important it is to be yourself.
58 "The Evergreen Election!" 1991 "Here I Go Again"

Bert decides to run against Cyril Sneer for mayor of the Evergreen Forest. Scenes from past episodes are used to support their political ideas.
59 "The One That Got Away!" 1991 "Ain't No Planes"
The pigs need money, which they can't get from their boss. So, they work for Milton Midas, dumping some strange barrels into a gorge. This would solve their money problems, but the barrels land in a river that flows into the forest's waterhole. This waterhole is part of Cyril's new ad campaign, Bert and Cedric's fishing spot, and home to the biggest catfish in the Forest.

In the final episode of the series, Cyril Sneer retires, and Cedric takes over the family business. Robin Steel, a dishonest trickster, convinces Cedric to organize a fake race. Bert and Lisa join the race to help Cedric.
