Craft Breweries Per Capita (US)
This map shows how many small breweries, called microbreweries, regional breweries, and brewpubs, there are in each U.S. state compared to the number of people living there.

A brewery is a place where drinks like beer are made. In the United States, there were many breweries by the end of 2017. About 7,450 breweries were operating across the country. Most of these, 7,346, were called "craft breweries." These are usually smaller, independent places that focus on making unique drinks.

Craft breweries include different types. There were 2,594 brewpubs, which are breweries that also have a restaurant. There were also 4,522 microbreweries, which are very small breweries. Another 230 were regional craft breweries, which are a bit larger. Only 104 were big, non-craft breweries.

The entire industry, including brewing, selling, and supplying ingredients, created a lot of jobs. In 2017, it supported almost 2.33 million jobs. This industry also had a huge economic impact, bringing in over $350 billion.

Vermont was a leading state for craft breweries. In 2012, it had one brewery for every 24,067 people. By 2022, Vermont still led with 15 breweries for every 100,000 people. This shows how popular craft brewing has become there. In 2022, craft brewers sold $28.4 billion worth of products. This made up about 24.6% of all beer sales in the U.S.
