City Status in Moldova

In Moldova, some places have a special status called "municipiu." This means they are very important cities, often with their own local government. There are 13 places with this "municipiu" status. These include Bălți, Cahul, Ceadîr-Lunga, Chișinău, Comrat, Edineț, Hîncești, Orhei, Soroca, Strășeni, Ungheni, Bender (Tighina), and Tiraspol. All the other 53 places are simply called cities or towns.
