Kwara State is a special part of Nigeria, located in the western central area of the country. It was created on May 27, 1967, when the larger Northern region of Nigeria was divided into several new states. Since then, many important leaders have guided Kwara State. These leaders are called either governors or administrators.

  • Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo (Civilian Governor): He was governor for a short time, from October 1983 to December 1983.
  • Shaaba Lafiaji (Civilian Governor): He served from January 1992 to November 1993.
  • Mohammed Lawal (Civilian Governor): He was governor from May 1999 to May 2003.
  • Bukola Saraki (Civilian Governor): He served two terms, from May 2003 to May 2011.
  • Abdulfatah Ahmed (Civilian Governor): He also served two terms, from May 2011 to May 2019.
  • Abdulrazaq Abdulrahman (Civilian Governor): He became governor in May 2019 and is currently serving.
