What Was a Governor?
During the time Trinidad and Tobago was a British colony, a governor was the highest official. They were chosen by the British government. Their job was to manage the colony. This included making sure laws were followed. They also oversaw the daily running of the islands.
The governor had a lot of power. They were like the chief executive. They worked with local councils. But the final decisions often came from Britain. This system changed over time. More local people gained a say in how the country was run. Eventually, Trinidad and Tobago became an independent nation. This meant it could govern itself.
