List of historic places in New Jersey facts for kids

This article is a list of amazing historic places in New Jersey. These places are special because they tell us about the past. They are listed by the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office and the National Registers of Historic Places. Some places on this list might not be on official national lists, but they are still important to New Jersey's history.

You can even see these places on a map online! There's a special map that shows where all these historic spots are located.

Camden and Amboy Railroad Branch Line Historic District

This historic district is part of the old Camden and Amboy Railroad. This railroad was one of the very first in the United States! It was a big deal for transportation and trade back in the day.

The branch line goes all the way from Bordentown City to North Brunswick. It passes through many towns in four different counties. Imagine how many people and goods traveled on this line long ago!

Robbinsville Township's Historic Spots

Robbinsville Township has several interesting historic places. Many of these are old farmsteads and house sites that tell us about how people lived and worked in the past.

Old Farmsteads and Houses

• Cubberly-Combs Farmstead: This old farmstead is located at 8 Sharon Road. It's a reminder of the farming history in the area.
• Hutchinson House: Found on Hutchinson Mill-Pond Road, this house is a very old and important historic site. It was even added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
• Imlay-Busby Farm: You can find this farm at 824 Allentown-Robbinsville Road. It's another example of the area's farming heritage.
• Robbins House: This house at 245 Windsor Road is also a historic landmark in Robbinsville.
• Totten-Van Ness House: Located at 24 Robbinsville-Allentown Road, this house gives us a peek into the past.

Historic Buildings and Districts

• Melrose Diner: This diner used to be on US Route 130. It was so special that it was moved by the Smithsonian Museum around 1988!
• Robbinsville First Baptist Church: This church at 22 Robbinsville-Allentown Road is a historic place of worship.
• Windsor Historic District: This district includes Main Street, Church Street, and School Drive. It's a whole area that has kept its historic look and feel.

• Ardmore Section Historic District: This district is roughly bounded by S. Olden Avenue, Greenwood Avenue, Chambers Street, and Hamilton Avenue.
• Berkeley Square Historic District: This beautiful district includes parts of Parkside, Riverside, and Overbrook avenues.
• Cadwalader Heights Historic District: This area has parts of Bellevue Avenue, North Parkside Avenue, and Stuyvesant Avenue.
• Central West-West End Historic District: Located between West State Street and Church Street, this district has a lot of history.
• Chambersburg Historic District: This district includes streets like South Clinton, Mott, and Hudson.
• Delaware and Raritan Canal Historic District: This huge historic district includes the entire canal bed and land around it. The canal was a major way to transport goods across New Jersey. It runs through five counties!
• Mill Hill Historic District: This district includes East Front, Mercer, and Jackson streets. It's a well-preserved historic neighborhood.
• Princeton Battlefield / Stony Brook Village Historic District: This district expands on the famous Princeton Battlefield, where a key battle of the American Revolutionary War took place.
• State House Historic District: This district includes West State and Barrack streets, where the New Jersey State House is located. It's a very important government building.
