List of lakes of Yellowstone County, Montana facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Yellowstone County in Montana is home to several beautiful lakes and important reservoirs. These bodies of water are special places where you can find wildlife, enjoy outdoor activities, or learn about how we get our water. Lakes are natural, while reservoirs are usually man-made.

What's the Difference Between Lakes and Reservoirs?

A lake is a large area of water surrounded by land. Most lakes are natural, formed by things like glaciers or rivers over many years. They are often fed by streams or underground springs.

A reservoir, on the other hand, is usually a man-made lake. People build large walls called dams across rivers to create reservoirs. These are often used to store water for drinking, farming, or making electricity.
