Mayors During the City Commission Era (1911-1985)
From 1911 to 1985, Mobile was run by a three-person city commission. The person called "Mayor of Mobile" was actually the President of this commission. The last mayor elected directly before this system was Patrick J. Lyons. He was the 40th mayor. Interestingly, Lyons later served as mayor several more times while on the City Commission. Mayors of Mobile Since 1985
In 1985, Mobile decided to change its government again. The city went back to directly electing its mayor. This means citizens vote directly for the person they want as mayor. Arthur Outlaw was the first mayor elected this way since 1911.
