Sacramento became a city a long time ago. Its first city leaders met on August 1, 1849. The people of Sacramento then voted for the city's official rules on October 13, 1849. The State of California officially recognized these rules on February 27, 1850. Sacramento officially became an incorporated city on March 18, 1850.
