List of members of the African Company of Merchants facts for kids
The African Company of Merchants was a special group set up by the British Parliament in 1752. It took over from an older company called the Royal African Company. People who wanted to join this new company could sign up in three big cities: London, Bristol, and Liverpool.
When the company started, there were 135 members in London, 157 in Bristol, and 101 in Liverpool. Even though Liverpool had fewer members, it played a very big part in the trade of enslaved people at that time.
