Liu Hua (Wang Yanjun's wife) facts for kids
Liu Hua (Chinese: 劉華) was an important woman in ancient China. She lived from 896 to 930 AD. Her courtesy name was Dexiu, and she was also known as Lady Minghui of Yan. In the Southern Han kingdom, she was called Princess Qingyuan.
Liu Hua was the first known wife of Wang Yanjun. During her lifetime, Wang Yanjun was a prince of the Min Kingdom. After she passed away, he became an emperor. Liu Hua's father was Liu Yin, who was the older brother of Liu Yan. Liu Yan was the first emperor of the Southern Han kingdom.
What Her Tombstone Tells Us
In 1965, Liu Hua's tombstone was found. This discovery helped historians learn many new things about her life. The tombstone confirmed her name and courtesy name. It also showed that her father was Liu Yin, not Liu Yan, as some had thought.
The tombstone described Liu Hua as the second daughter of Liu Yin. Her mother's name was Lady Yan. The tombstone also gave her death date and her age when she died.
Liu Hua's Children
The tombstone mentioned that Lady Liu had four sons and two daughters. It's not fully clear if all of them were her biological children. In those times, a prince's children by other wives or consorts were often considered the main wife's children too.
Her sons were listed in this order:
- Wang Jiyan (王繼嚴)
- Wang Jipeng (王繼鵬)
- Wang Jitao (王繼韜)
- Wang Jigong (王繼恭)
Wang Jipeng, the second son, seemed to have a more important position during his father's rule. This might mean he was Liu Hua's biological son, while Wang Jiyan, the oldest, might have been born to another mother.
Liu Hua also had two daughters, but their names were not on the tombstone. One daughter was already an adult when Liu Hua died. The other daughter was still a child.
