How the Show Started
This TV show began a long time ago in 1983. It was first a local program in New York City. Back then, it was called The Morning Show. The first hosts were Regis Philbin and Cyndy Garvey. Cyndy Garvey left the show after one year. Ann Abernathy took her place in 1984.
From Local to National TV
In 1985, Ann Abernathy moved away. Kathie Lee Gifford then became Regis Philbin's co-host. The show became very popular. In 1988, it started being shown all over the country. Its name changed to Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee. Kathie Lee Gifford left the show in 2000. For a while, the show was called Live! with Regis. Regis Philbin hosted with many different guest co-hosts.
New Co-Hosts Join the Show
In 2001, Kelly Ripa was chosen as Regis Philbin's new co-host. The show was then renamed Live! with Regis and Kelly. Regis and Kelly worked together for many years. In 2011, Regis Philbin announced he would be leaving the show. His last show was on November 18, 2011.
A New Era for Live!
After Regis left, the show became Live! with Kelly. Kelly Ripa hosted with many different guest co-hosts. In 2012, former football star Michael Strahan became the new full-time co-host. The show's name changed again to Live! with Kelly and Michael.
