Robert Lloyd George MacPhail (March 22, 1920 – July 2, 1995) was an important Canadian politician. He served as the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island. This is a special role representing the King or Queen in the province.

Lloyd MacPhail: A Leader for Prince Edward Island
Lloyd MacPhail was born in New Haven, Prince Edward Island. His parents were Robert Archibald MacPhail and Catherine C. MacLean. He grew up to become a successful businessman and merchant. Later, he decided to enter politics to serve his community.
Serving the People of PEI
Lloyd MacPhail began his political career in 1961. He was first elected in a special election called a by-election. He became a member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. This assembly is where laws are made for the province. He represented the area of 2nd Queens for the Prince Edward Island Progressive Conservative Party.
He was very popular and was re-elected many times. He won elections in 1962, 1966, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1979, and 1982. This shows how much people trusted him to represent them.
Important Roles in Government
During his time in the Legislative Assembly, Lloyd MacPhail held many important jobs. These jobs are called "cabinet positions." He helped lead different parts of the provincial government.
- He was the Minister of Industry and Natural Resources. This meant he helped manage businesses and natural resources like forests or minerals.
- He also served as the Minister of Tourism Development from 1965 to 1966. In this role, he worked to bring more visitors to Prince Edward Island.
- From 1979 to 1981, he was the Minister of Finance. This is a very important job, as he was in charge of the province's money and budget.
- He was also the Chairman of the Treasury Board during the same time. This role involves overseeing how government money is spent.
- He was the Minister of Development from 1979 to 1980. This meant he helped plan for the growth and improvement of the province.
Becoming Lieutenant Governor
After many years as an elected politician, Lloyd MacPhail was appointed Lieutenant Governor. He held this important position from 1985 to 1990. The Lieutenant Governor represents the King or Queen in the province. They make sure the government follows the rules and traditions.
A National Honor
