Loïsa Puget

Loïsa Puget (born February 11, 1810 – died October 24, 1889) was a talented French composer. She wrote many popular songs and even some operas. Her music was well-loved in her time.

Loïsa Puget's Life

Loïsa Puget was born in Paris, France. Her full first names were Louise Françoise. Her mother was a singer, and she made sure Loïsa received a good musical education. Loïsa even studied at the same school as a famous writer named George Sand. Her teacher for composing music was Adolphe Adam, who was also a well-known composer.

After finishing her studies, Loïsa started writing and performing her own music. She often performed in "salons." These were like fancy living rooms where people gathered to listen to music and talk. In 1845, she married Gustave Lemoine, who wrote the words for many of her songs.

Loïsa was very busy between 1830 and 1845. During this time, she wrote the music for over 300 songs! She also composed a few operas. Many of her songs were published with guitar music, so people could play them at home. Some famous guitarists, like Matteo Carcassi, even helped arrange her music for guitar.

One of Loïsa's most successful songs was À la grâce de Dieu. In 1841, Gustave Lemoine and Adolphe d'Ennery wrote a play based on this song. This play later gave the idea for an opera called Linda di Chamounix by Gaetano Donizetti.

Loïsa Puget passed away in Pau.
