How Loacker Started

Loacker started way back in 1925! An Austrian baker named Alfons Loacker opened a small shop in Bolzano, Italy. He had just two helpers in his little store.
In 1974, Alfons' son, Armin Loacker, moved the company out of the city. He picked a beautiful spot in the Dolomites mountains to make even more wafers. This move helped Loacker grow from a small bakery into a bigger company.
Making Loacker Treats
Today, Loacker has two main factories. One is in Auna di Sotto, Italy, and the other is in Heinfels, Austria. Both factories are located high up in the mountains, over 1,000 meters above sea level!
Who Runs the Company Now
The company is now run by the third generation of the Loacker family. Armin's sons, Andreas and Martin Loacker, lead the company. Their cousin, Ulrich Zuenelli, is also a big part of the team as the executive chairman.
How Many People Work at Loacker
As of January 2024, Loacker has 1,153 employees. In 2021, they made over 1 billion single pieces of their products! They sold about 35,729 tons of treats, which brought in €435.45 million in sales.
Where Loacker Treats Are Sold
The countries that bought the most Loacker products in 2021 were Italy, the United States, and Saudi Arabia. Israel and China also bought a lot of their yummy snacks.
Loacker and Ice Cream
In 2022, Loacker teamed up with another company called Sammontana. Together, they started making a new line of Loacker-branded ice creams!
Loacker Products and Ingredients
One of Loacker's most famous products is the Napolitaner wafer. It has a delicious hazelnut flavor. The name "Napolitaner" comes from the hazelnuts, which used to be grown near Naples, Italy.
Where Ingredients Come From
Loacker is working hard to make sure their ingredients are sourced in a good way. They have special plans to get their raw materials sustainably.
For example, they use vanilla pods from Madagascar and cocoa beans from Ecuador and the Ivory Coast. For their creamy fillings, they use milk powder from Dolomites Milk. This is a special company that Loacker started with local farmers in South Tyrol. It's the first factory in Italy to specialize in milk powder.
Loacker also grows some of its own hazelnuts on farms in Tuscany, Italy. They also work with many other farms in Italy to get their hazelnuts.
Other Products Loacker Distributes
Besides their own products, Loacker also helps distribute other brands in Italy. These include products from Lorenz, Pema, Twinings, Ovomaltine, and Darbo.
Loacker Cafés
Loacker doesn't just make and sell snacks to stores. They also have five special Loacker Cafés! All of these cafés are located in Tyrol, a region in the Alps.
These cafés are a mix of a store and a bakery. You can buy all sorts of Loacker products there. You can also enjoy freshly baked goods and delicious coffee. The cafés are in important places like Bolzano's Piazza Walther, the Twenty shopping mall, and right next to their factory in Heinfels.
