Locust Hill was officially planned and mapped out, a process called platting, in 1870. It got its name from the many locust trees that grew near the higher ground where the community was built.

A post office was opened in Locust Hill way back in 1858. This was an important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. The post office served the community for many years before it finally closed down in 1907.
