The Lopača river is a small but important river in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It flows into the Vrbanja river, which is a larger river. The Lopača river starts high up in the mountains from two tiny streams. These streams join together at about 1090 meters (around 3,576 feet) above sea level.
At first, the Lopača river flows towards the southwest. Then, it changes direction and flows to the northwest. Just before it meets the Vrbanja river, it turns southwest again.

Where the Lopača River Starts
The Lopača river begins on the eastern side of Selačka Mountain. Its two starting streams flow between two hills. These hills are called Marina Glava, which is 1192 meters high, and Lujin Dirjek, which is 1180 meters high.
The River's Journey
The Lopača river flows past the village of Gelići. It travels between two slopes: Melina to the north and Osoje to the south. The river finally joins the Vrbanja river at an altitude of 566 meters (about 1,857 feet). This meeting point is below the slopes of Previja, near a peak called Padališće, which is 785 meters high.
Streams and Water Sources
The Lopača river gets water from many smaller streams. Six streams flow into it from each side. The biggest of these is a stream called Dolovi, which joins from the right side. The river also has several natural springs along its banks. These springs help keep the water level steady, even when there hasn't been much rain for a long time.
Old Watermills
Many years ago, the Lopača river was very important for local people. In the 1960s, there were about 20 watermills built along the river. These watermills were located below the village of Gelići, all the way to where the Lopača joins the Vrbanja river. People used these mills to grind grain into flour.
