Lorcan Cranitch is a well-known Irish actor. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, on August 28, 1959. Lorcan loved acting from a young age. He even studied drama when he was a student. Later, he moved to London to train at a famous acting school called RADA.

Lorcan Cranitch has had many exciting roles in television shows and movies. He started his acting journey in 1978.

Early TV Roles

One of his first big roles on British TV was in 1991. He played Tim Healy in the BBC drama series Parnell and the Englishwoman. People really started to recognize him when he played DS Jimmy Beck. This was a detective role in the popular show Cracker from 1993 to 1995.

Becoming a Familiar Face

After Cracker, Lorcan joined another BBC show called Ballykissangel. He played Sean Dillon, a character written just for him. In 2001, he starred in McCready and Daughter. He also appeared in many other British TV dramas. These include Shackleton, Waking the Dead, Spooks, and Silent Witness.

In 2005, he played a bad guy named Erastes Fulmen in the show Rome. This was a big production by HBO and the BBC. He also played Dickie Best in Best: His Mother's Son in 2009. This show was about the famous footballer George Best. You might also remember him as DCI Frank Keane in The Bill.

More recently, he appeared in Fortitude as DI Littlejohn. In 2016, he was in an episode of Death in Paradise. In 2017, he played Assistant Chief Constable Nicholls in Inspector George Gently. In February 2021, Lorcan took a main role in the BBC crime drama Bloodlands. He played Detective Chief Superintendent Jackie Twomey.

Movie Appearances

Lorcan Cranitch has also acted in several movies. He was in Dancing at Lughnasa with the famous actress Meryl Streep. Other films include The Playboys and Titanic Town.

Personal Life

Lorcan Cranitch went to secondary school at Terenure College. He was married to Susan Jackson, who is a journalist and newsreader for RTÉ. In 2010, they adopted a child from Ethiopia. Lorcan's sister, Ellen Cranitch, is also involved in media. She is a presenter on Lyric FM, which is RTÉ's classical music radio station.
