The Title's Journey

When George Keith inherited the Lord Altrie title, it became joined with his other important title, Earl Marischal. This meant that whoever was the Earl Marischal also held the title of Lord Altrie.

This continued for many years, through several generations of the Keith family. However, the title of Lord Altrie, along with the Earl Marischal title, was eventually "forfeited" in 1715. Forfeiture means the title was taken away by the government, usually because the person holding it had acted against the crown. In this case, it was taken from George Keith, 10th Earl Marischal. After this, the title of Lord Altrie no longer existed.
