Early Life and Music
Loretta Thompson-Glickman had an exciting start to her career. She was a talented jazz singer. She even toured with a famous music group called the New Christy Minstrels. In 1975, she decided to stop singing professionally. She wanted to focus on starting her family.
Making History in Pasadena
Loretta then turned her attention to helping her community. In 1977, she achieved something amazing. She became the first black woman elected as a Pasadena city director. This was a big step for the city.
Just four years later, she broke another barrier. She became Pasadena's first black vice mayor. Her hard work and dedication led her to the top. In 1982, Loretta Thompson-Glickman became the Mayor of Pasadena. She was the first African-American person to hold this important position.
