The Story of Los Quirquinchos
How the Town Began
The history of Los Quirquinchos started when a man named Domingo Funes sold a piece of his land to Juan Gödeken. This area was completely undeveloped, with no roads, houses, or people living there. Historians believe that Juan Gödeken was the first person to truly start a settlement here.
After Gödeken, many farmers arrived. They worked hard to clear the land and grow crops. These early settlers also built most of the rural roads that are still used today. The official founding date for the local government, called a comuna, was October 11, 1906.
Where Did the Name Come From?
The town's name, Los Quirquinchos, might have been a temporary name at first. The area has many chañar trees, which are common in this region. In fact, a nearby town is called Chañar Ladeado, which means sideways chañar. This suggests that the local plants often inspired town names.
