Louis II of Zweibrücken was an important ruler in a place called Zweibrücken in Germany. He was born on September 14, 1502, and passed away on December 3, 1532. From 1514 until his death, he held the titles of Count Palatine and Duke of Zweibrücken. This meant he was a powerful leader in his region.
Early Life and Family
Louis II was the son of Alexander, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken. His mother was Countess Margarete of Hohenlohe-Neuenstein. He grew up in a noble family, meaning his family had a high social rank and ruled over land.
Marriage and Children
In 1525, Louis II married Elisabeth of Hesse. She was the daughter of William I, Landgrave of Lower Hesse. A Landgrave was another type of ruler, similar to a duke or count.
Louis and Elisabeth had two children together. Their son, Wolfgang, later became the ruler after his father. Their daughter, Christine, sadly died when she was very young in 1534.
His Passing
Louis II died on December 3, 1532, when he was 30 years old. He was buried in the crypt (an underground room) of the Alexanderskirche in Zweibrücken. This church was named after his father, Alexander, who helped build it.
