The Louisiana Historical Association is a group in Louisiana that helps collect and save the history of the state. It was started in 1889.
This organization was created, in part, to help run a museum in New Orleans called Memorial Hall. This museum was given to the Association on January 8, 1891. It helps people learn about important events from the past.
The Association also publishes a special magazine called Louisiana History: The Journal of the Louisiana Historical Association []. This magazine shares articles and research about Louisiana's history. It has been published regularly since 1960.
What the Association Does
The Louisiana Historical Association works hard to keep the history of Louisiana alive. They do this by:
- Collecting old documents, letters, and pictures.
- Saving important stories and facts about the state.
- Helping to run the Memorial Hall Museum, where visitors can see historical items.
- Publishing their journal, Louisiana History, which shares new discoveries about the past.
