An Olympic Dream Deferred
Luci was a member of the 1980 US Olympic Team. However, she did not get to compete in the games. This was because the United States decided not to send its athletes to the 1980 Summer Olympics. This decision was called a "boycott." It meant that American athletes, including Luci, could not go to the games that year.
A Pioneer in Sports
Even though she didn't compete, Luci Collins Cummings is still very important. She is recognized as the first Black female Olympian for Team USA in gymnastics. This made her a pioneer, opening doors for future athletes.
