She studied humanities at Sapienza University of Rome, finishing her degree in 1987. Later, she earned another degree in Paris, focusing on how music makes you feel. She also studied music history in Paris and wrote about the orchestral styles of Ernest Chausson and Wagner.
In Paris, she continued to learn about composing from Gérard Grisey. She also took courses at IRCAM, a famous music research center. In 2005, she was a special visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York City.

Her Musical Creations
Since 1998, Lucia Ronchetti has worked on many projects at the Technical University of Berlin. In 2003, she started working at the Experimentalstudio of Freiburg. There, she created a series of pieces that explore the sound of the viola, a string instrument. This collection, called Xylocopa Violacea, was presented in 2007.
She often works with voices in her music. She has collaborated closely with the Neue Vocalsolisten of Stuttgart, a group of singers. Together, they have created eight different productions. These include Studio detto dei venti for four voices and Anatra al sal, a "harmonic comedy" for six voices.
Lucia Ronchetti has also created many music theatre projects. These projects often explore ideas about society. For example, she has looked at themes like being an outsider or living in difficult places. She also explores ideas about borders and mental health in her works. Some of her projects focus on city life, like Rumori da monumenti.
For her music theatre projects, she has worked with writers like Ivan Vladislavic. She has also teamed up with artists and sound designers. Her opera Inferno is based on Dante's famous poem, Divine Comedy. This opera was first performed in 2021 in Frankfurt.
