Lucia Ronchetti (born on February 3, 1963) is a talented Italian composer. She creates many different kinds of music, including operas, theatre pieces, and orchestral works. Her music has been performed by famous groups and at big festivals all over the world.

About Lucia Ronchetti

Lucia Ronchetti studied music composition and computer music at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome, Italy. She also attended special composition classes with famous composers like Sylvano Bussotti and Salvatore Sciarrino.

She also studied humanities at the Sapienza University of Rome. Later, she moved to Paris, France, where she continued her studies in musicology at the University of Paris I-Sorbonne and the École pratique des hautes études. In Paris, she learned from composer Gérard Grisey and took courses at IRCAM, a famous center for music science and technology.

In 2005, Lucia was invited to be a visiting scholar at Columbia University in New York City. This was part of the Fulbright Fellow program, which helps people study abroad.

Her musical works have been published by major companies and performed by many important groups and institutions. These include the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Konzerthaus Berlin, Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt, and the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin. Her music has also been featured at big festivals like MaerzMusik in Berlin and the Munich Biennale.

Lucia's Musical Creations

Since 1998, Lucia Ronchetti has worked on many projects that explore new sounds and ideas in music. She often collaborates with the Experimentalstudio of Freiburg, a special studio for electronic music. One of her projects there was a series of pieces called Xylocopa Violacea, which explores the sound of the viola instrument.

Lucia is also very interested in how the human voice can be used in music. She has worked closely with the Neue Vocalsolisten of Stuttgart, a group of singers. Together, they have created many different pieces for voices, sometimes with other instruments. These include Studio detto dei venti and Anatra al sal, which is a "harmonic comedy" for six voices.

She has also created many music theatre projects. These are like plays or operas that use music to tell a story or explore social ideas. For example, some of her works look at themes like people who are different (Bendel/Schlemihl) or groups of outsiders (Narrenschiffe). She also explored ideas about city life in Rumori da monumenti.

For her music theatre projects, Lucia often works with writers like Ermanno Cavazzoni and Ivan Vladislavic, and with artists and sound designers. One of her most notable operas is Inferno, which is based on Dante's famous poem, Divine Comedy. This opera was asked for by the Oper Frankfurt and was first performed in 2021.
