Lucienne Boyer (born August 18, 1901 – died December 6, 1983) was a famous French singer. She was known for her beautiful voice and her hit song, "Parlez-moi d'amour" (which means "Speak to Me of Love"). Many people called her the "queen of Paris nightlife" in the 1930s because she was so popular.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Lucienne Boyer was born Émilienne-Henriette Boyer in Montparnasse, a part of Paris, France. Her father died while serving as a soldier in World War I. Because of this, young Lucienne worked in a factory that made ammunition to help her family.

When she was 16, her lovely voice helped her start singing in small clubs called cabarets. She also worked as a model part-time. Later, she got an office job at a big theater in Paris. This helped her get her start. Within a few years, she began singing in major music halls in Paris, using the stage name Lucienne Boyer.

Becoming a Star

In 1927, Lucienne Boyer sang at a concert where an American show producer named Lee Shubert saw her. He was very impressed and immediately offered her a contract to perform on Broadway in New York City.

Lucienne spent nine months performing in New York. She returned to perform there and in South America many times during the 1930s.

By 1933, she had recorded many songs for Columbia Records in France. One of these was her most famous song, "Parlez-moi d'amour". This song was written by Jean Lenoir. It was so popular that it won the very first Grand Prix du Disque. This is a special award given by the Charles Cros Academy for the best record.

Family Life

In 1939, Lucienne Boyer married Jacques Pills, who was also a cabaret singer. They had a daughter named Jacqueline Boyer on April 23, 1941. Jacqueline followed in her parents' footsteps and became a singer too. She even won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, which is a big music competition.

During World War II, Lucienne continued to perform in France. However, it was a very difficult time for her husband because he was Jewish. After the Allied Forces freed France, Lucienne's singing career became even more successful. She kept a loyal fan base for another thirty years. When she was 73 years old, she sang with her daughter at the famous Paris Olympia theater and appeared on several French television shows.

Later Years and Death

Lucienne Boyer passed away in Paris in 1983. She was buried in the Cimetière de Bagneux in Montrouge.
