Becoming a Golf Star

Early Life and Amateur Success

Luis Carbonetti was born in Río Cuarto, Córdoba, a city in Argentina. He isn't the only golfer in his family; his brother, Horacio Carbonetti, is also a professional golfer.

Before he became a professional, Luis was an amazing amateur player. He played for Argentina in the Eisenhower Trophy five times. This is a big international team competition for amateur golfers. Luis even won the individual part of the tournament twice, in 1982 and 1984! This means he was the best amateur golfer in the world in those years.

Turning Professional

In 1984, Luis Carbonetti decided to become a professional golfer. This meant he could now earn money from playing golf. He quickly showed his talent, winning the "Order of Merit" for the Argentine Tour in 1985. The "Order of Merit" is like a championship title for the player who earns the most money or points on a golf tour in a season. He also won the Cordoba Tour Order of Merit in 2002.

Luis played on the European Tour during the 1980s and 1990s. This is one of the biggest golf tours in the world. His best results on this tour were finishing tied for 7th place twice in 1989. These were at the Lancia Italian Open and the Torras Monte Carlo Open.

Later in his career, Luis joined tours for older golfers. In 2003, he played on the U.S.-based Champions Tour. He is now a member of the European Seniors Tour, where he has won three tournaments.
