Luis Carlos Croissier Batista (born in 1950) is a Spanish politician and business leader. He held important roles in the Spanish government and in major companies. One of his main jobs was serving as the Minister of Industry and Energy from 1986 to 1988.

Early Life and Education

Luis Carlos Croissier was born on August 18, 1950, in Arucas, a town in the Canary Islands of Spain. He later moved to mainland Spain to go to university. He studied Economics at the Complutense University of Madrid. During his time there, he became involved in politics. He also continued his studies in Economics in Paris. In 1974, he returned to Spain and joined the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). After a period of political change in Spain, he became a civil servant.

Political Career

Member of Parliament

In 1983, Luis Carlos Croissier became a member of the Congress of Deputies. This is like being a member of parliament in Spain. He represented the area of Madrid. However, he soon left this position.

Leading Public Companies

From 1984 to 1986, Croissier was the President of the Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI). This was a large government-owned group of companies in Spain. During his time as president, he helped to sell off some of these government-owned companies to private businesses.

Minister of Industry and Energy

In July 1986, at the age of 35, Luis Carlos Croissier was appointed as the Minister of Industry and Energy. He was part of the government led by Prime Minister Felipe González. In this role, he was responsible for important areas like factories, power, and natural resources in Spain. He served in this position until 1988.

Financial Regulator

After his time as a minister, Croissier took on another significant role. From 1988 to 1996, he was the first president of the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV). This organization is very important because it supervises and regulates the stock markets in Spain. It helps make sure that buying and selling stocks is fair and safe.

Later Career

After leaving his government roles, Luis Carlos Croissier joined the boards of directors for several well-known companies. These included companies like Adolfo Domínguez, Eolia, High Tech Hoteles, Jazztel, Repsol YPF, and Alantra. This shows his continued involvement in the business world.
